12 differences between 3PE coating and 3PP coating

Date:2023-03-20View:244Tags:coating steel pipe
  1. Coating Material: The main difference between 3PE and 3PP coating steel pipes lies in the materials used for coating. 3PE coating uses three layers of coating consisting of an epoxy layer, adhesive layer, and polyethylene layer, while 3PP coating uses a single layer of polypropylene.

  2. Thickness: The thickness of the coatings is different for both the types of pipes. The 3PE coating thickness is generally between 1.8mm to 4.0mm, while the 3PP coating thickness is between 1.0mm to 4.5mm.

  3. Application: 3PE coating is mainly used for buried pipelines, while 3PP coating is used for above-ground pipelines.

  4. Resistance to Chemicals: 3PE coating provides better resistance to chemicals, acids, and alkalis, while 3PP coating is resistant to solvents, acids, and bases.

  5. Temperature Resistance: 3PE coating can withstand temperatures up to 85°C, while 3PP coating can withstand temperatures up to 110°C.

  6. UV Resistance: 3PP coating is better at UV resistance than 3PE coating.

  7. Installation: 3PE coating is more difficult to install than 3PP coating because of its thicker layer.

  8. Cost: 3PE coating is generally more expensive than 3PP coating due to the additional materials required.

  9. Corrosion Resistance: Both coatings provide excellent corrosion resistance.

  10. Durability: Both coatings are durable and can provide long-term protection to the pipelines.

  11. Environmental Impact: Both coatings are environmentally friendly and do not contain any hazardous materials.

  12. Maintenance: Both coatings require minimal maintenance and can be easily repaired in case of damage. However, repairing 3PE coating may require more effort due to its thickness.
