According to data released by the General Administration of Customs today, the total value of my country's import and export of goods in 2024 exceeded 45 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, setting a new historical high. Against the backdrop of a weak global economic recovery and rising geopolitical risks, China's foreign trade has shown strong resilience and vitality, and has made new breakthroughs in high-quality development.
Data show that in 2024, my country's import and export volume with countries along the "Belt and Road" reached 18.5 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.2%, accounting for 41.1% of the total foreign trade value, an increase of 8.3 percentage points from 2020. During the same period, my country's import and export volume with other RCEP member countries reached 15.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.8%, and regional economic and trade cooperation continued to deepen.
The foreign trade structure continued to optimize. In 2024, my country's exports of mechanical and electrical products increased by 8.1%, accounting for 58.6% of the total export value. The export value of "new three things" such as new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products exceeded 1.5 trillion yuan, an increase of 35.6%, becoming a new driving force for foreign trade growth. The import and export value of cross-border e-commerce reached 3.8 trillion yuan, an increase of 15.2%, and new foreign trade formats flourished.
A spokesperson for the General Administration of Customs said that in 2024, my country's foreign trade withstood external pressure, overcame multiple challenges, and achieved effective improvement in quality and reasonable growth in quantity. This fully demonstrates the strong resilience and comprehensive competitiveness of the Chinese economy, and also confirms the strategic vision of building a new development pattern.
Looking forward to 2025, although the external environment remains complex and severe, the fundamentals of my country's long-term economic improvement have not changed, and the momentum of foreign trade innovation and development is strong. With the continuous advancement of high-level opening up and the deepening of regional economic and trade cooperation, China's foreign trade will surely take more solid steps on the road of high-quality development.
