Nondestructive testing (NDT) of steel pipes is a method used to evaluate the integrity and properties of the materials, components, or systems without causing damage. It is an essential process in the steel industry to ensure the quality and safety of the pipes.

There are several methods used in the nondestructive testing of steel pipes:

1. Ultrasonic Testing (UT): This method uses high-frequency sound waves to detect imperfections or changes in properties within the materials. It can accurately measure the thickness of the pipes and detect internal and external flaws.

2. Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT): This method is used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. It involves magnetizing the area to be inspected and then applying iron particles that are attracted to the leakage fields of discontinuities.

3. Radiographic Testing (RT): This method uses X-rays or gamma rays to view the internal structure of the steel pipe. It can detect internal flaws such as cracks, slag inclusions, porosity, and more.

4. Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT): This method is used to detect any surface-breaking defects on the steel pipes. A liquid with high surface wetting characteristics is applied to the surface and drawn into any surface-breaking defects by capillary action.

5. Eddy Current Testing (ECT): This method uses electromagnetic induction to detect flaws in conductive materials. It can detect small cracks and other defects on or near the surface of the steel pipe.
