Introduction about AS standards

Date:2023-04-18View:296Tags:Introduction about AS standards

AS standards refer to the set of standards developed by Standards Australia, the Australian national standards organization. These standards cover a wide range of industries and sectors, including construction, engineering, information technology, and consumer products.

AS standards are developed through a rigorous process of consultation with stakeholders, including industry experts, government agencies, and consumer groups. The standards are designed to promote safety, quality, and consistency in products and services, and to facilitate trade and commerce both within Australia and internationally.

AS standards are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure that they remain relevant and effective in meeting the needs of industry and society. Compliance with AS standards is often required by law or by industry bodies as a condition of doing business.

Standards Australia has developed several AS standards related to steel pipes, including:

  1. AS 1074 Steel tubes and tubulars for ordinary service: This standard specifies the requirements for circular and non-circular hollow sections made from carbon and carbon-manganese steels for use in structural and general engineering applications.

  2. AS 1163 Structural steel hollow sections: This standard specifies the requirements for cold-formed welded structural hollow sections made from non-alloy and fine grain steels. These sections are used in structural applications such as bridges, buildings, and other infrastructure projects.

  3. AS 1396 Steel sheet and strip - Hot-dipped zinc-coated or aluminium/zinc-coated: This standard specifies the requirements for hot-dip galvanized or aluminum/zinc-coated steel sheet and strip used for structural, engineering, and other purposes.

  4. AS 1579 Arc-welded steel pipes and fittings for water and wastewater: This standard specifies the requirements for arc-welded steel pipes and fittings for use in water supply and wastewater systems.

  5. AS 4087 Metallic flanges for waterworks purposes: This standard specifies the requirements for metallic flanges used in waterworks, including steel flanges.

These standards cover different aspects of steel pipes, such as their manufacturing, materials, dimensions, and applications. Compliance with these standards can help ensure the quality and safety of steel pipes used in various industries and applications in Australia.
